Thorough consideration is given to all possible flood-control measures, including channel improvement, dyking, storage, and diversion. Initial cost estimates for the project ranged from 12 million dollars for protection against a flood of the 1950 magnitude to 82 million dollars for protection against a flood of the 1826 magnitude.
