Hammond, M.O. Painting and Sculpture in Canada. Toronto: The Ryerson Press, 1930. First printing. pp. 72. Small 8vo. Beige stapled card covers. Lovely colour frontispiece accompanied with many black and white photographs and portraits of notable men and women in Canadian art. Unusually, this title is accompanied with what appears to be an original hand-written note in script strongly resembling syllabics (possibly shorthand) bearing the name of the author and the title of this booklet. Perhaps an attempt to translate the text to Indigenous syllabics. No detectable flaws, contents clean and unmarked with tight, sound binding; near fine. Contents include: Early Emigre Artists, Hints of a Native Art; The Ontario Society of Aritsts; The Royal Canadian Academy; The Emergence of National Art; The Canadian Art Club; Discovery of the Northland; The Group of Seven; Women Painters; Sculpture; Etchings and Caricature. Stapled Wraps. (#719) $35.00
