Description

Jebb, Albert C. (Editor); Wilf Small (Sub-editor). Official Bulletin of the Manitoba Wireless Experimenters’ Association, “V4E”; [Cover Subtitle: “Issued monthly in the interests of amateur radio”.]. Winnipeg, Manitoba: Manitoba Wireless Experimenters’ Association, January, 1937. Vol. 1, No. 1. pp. 10. 4to., measuring 9″ x 12″. Brightly illustrated stapled card covers featuring the image of a tall transmisson tower, with a crest comprising of a map of Canada, atop a set of four brightly-coloured radio waves. An amateur periodical published for the benefit of amateur “wireless experimenter’s”; usually students notably from Kelvin High School, and Central Collegiate which were hotbeds of amateur wireless activity in the early part of the last century. Amongst the little quirks of the publication: it refers to its members exclusively by their phonetic and radio code names (e.g.: VE4RO, VE4TJ, VE4AFK, etc.). Features wonderful hand-drawn illustrations, as well as professionally placed advertisements to the verso of the front and rear covers by local businesses catering to the ever-burgeoning population of amateur wireless experimenters. No detectable flaws, fine. Exceedingly scarce, we cannot locate any instances of this amateur periodical amongst any institutional holdings including the University of Alberta – Peel Project, the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections, or Library and Archives Canada. Rare indeed. Stapled Wraps. (#1454)
