Milne, A.A. Now We Are Six. Toronto: McClelland and Stewart, 1925 [Circa 1940’s]. Early Reprint. pp. ix, 103. 12mo., measuring 8″x5.5″. Light green illustrated paper boards; illustrated endpapers. Light rubbing to extremities, slight sunning to spine, contents remain bright, clean, and unmarked with tight, sound binding; very good+. Copyright on the verso of the title page incorrectly lists the publication date as 1925. Many sellers have erroneously claimed that their copy is the “First Canadian Edition” of this title, it is not. The first “true” and Canadian Edition was actually published in 1927 and we further note that the “true first edition” was issued in orange cloth over boards rather than paper. This edition is most likely an early reprint from the 1940’s. Spadoni and Donnelly state in “A Bibliography of McClelland and Stewart Imprints, 1909-1985” (#866, p.254) that they, “also examined a copy issued in blue paper boards, apparently a reprint, printed by Hunter-Rose & Co. Ltd., which incorrectly gives the M&S copyright date as 1925 on the verso of the title-leaf. According to Haring-Smith and other sources, Now We Are Six was not published until 1927.” Hardcover.
