Originally published in Montreal by J. Chapleau & Fils, Endatc, in 1885, our offering is the equally rare second edition printed in the Algonquian dialect of the Chippewa [Ojibwa] language. Chiefly comprising of musical score(s) for hymns put into the Chippewa language it is attributed to Médéric Prévost according to Pillings’ ‘Bibliographies of the languages of the North American Indians’. At time of cataloguing not housed at Peel, BAC/LAC, University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections. Corresponds to OCLC #937514004 indicating only one institutional holding. Text chiefly in Chippewa with some French, and Latin. Extremities show light edgewear, binding has been reinforced with white utilitarian archival cloth along the gutters of the front, and rear endpapers. Internally, the contents remain bright, clean, and unmarked with tight, sound binding. A very good+ edition of an exceedingly scarce, and important title. Hardcover. See Pilling, p 408-09.
