Description

d’Alembert, Jean le Rond (1717-1783). Miscellanies Concerning Literature, History, Philosophy, and Other Subjects of the Belles Lettres by Mr. D’Alembert, member of the Royal Academy of Inscriptions at Paris, Translated from the French. Glasgow: Printed for Robert Urie, 1765. First Edition. pp. 228. 12mo. Full calf with title in gilt over maroon spine label; five raised bands, six compartments. Leather extremities are lightly rubbed, some scuffing as is to be expected of a volume of this age. The leather has recently been professionally replenished and treated with a natural leather preserver. Internally: lovely neat period inscription to the front endpapers dated 1799, text-block itself remains otherwise clean, and unmarked; very good+. Only the second appearance of this work in English, the first having been published just one year earlier, in 1764, by C. Henderson. Rare in commerce of the English-language translation of the prolific French encyclopedist. See, ESTC Citation No. T173296. Leather Bound. (#1563) $645.00
