Illustrated purple stapled card covers. Verso of the covers feature advertisements marketing a variety of “remedies”. Contents included supposed cures for: Convulsions, Chicken Pox, Camphor Vapour, Gripes and Looseness, Hooping Cough, Mumps, Nettle Rash, Ringworm, Sore Eyes, Sore Nipples, Scarlet Fever, Scarlatina, Scald Head, Teething, Watery Brain, Worms, et al. Preceded by the 1856 Edition, this is the Revised Edition being published in 1891. Several very similar “new editions” exist, published at other times, with changes of advertisements, occasional updating of illustrations and some resetting of interior type. The covers are either purple or pink. Corresponds to OCLC #31882785. Rare in commerce in this condition, no Canadian institutional holdings at time of cataloguing.
