Description

Szyk, Arthur. ‘December 7, 1941’. A full-colour reproduction of the famous propaganda painting. The painting was one of a series of poster or magazine covers (Colliers and Saturday Evening Post) which depicted Axis leaders in most unflattering poses. In our offering, Hitler and Mussolini are shown in one corner pondering what the caricature of Japanese Emperor Hirohito is about to do with a knife as he approaches an American cowboy from behind. The image is a very slightly age-toned at the margins, with a few short closed tears along the edges (three to be precise). Measuring 34 cm x 24 cm and is signed in the plate of Szyk. Reverse side is a colour photo of a young woman by Blumenfeld. (#146) $50.00
