Charles Freer Andrews (1871-1940) was an Anglican priest, missionary, educator, and social reformer. A contemporary of the likes of Tagore, and Gandhi, who affectionately dubbed him “Christ’s Faithful Apostle”, a play on his initials C.F.A., and “Deenabandhu” [“Friend of the Poor” in Hindi], his faith and temperament would attract him to various struggles for social justice, particulary in India, where he was instrumental in supporting the aspirations of the Indian independence movement, working to abolish the caste-system, and acting as an intermediary between Christians and Hindus. Widely regarded as one of Gandhi’s closest friends and confidants, he was one of the few to address the revered figure by his first name, Mohan. (#6162) $54.00
