Navy-blue card covers with gilt lettering and illustration to the front. Exceptionally well-preserved: no detectable flaws to the extremities, contents equally without blemish. Appears unread; as new. Rare to be offered in commerce, in this edition, and state. SIGNED, inscribed and dated (August 6, 2000) by the author to the blank recto following the copyright page. Corresponds to OCLC #33390874 indicating only but two institutional holdings at time of cataloguing. Rare. The author was a noted American antisemitic conspiracy theorist, Holocaust denier, white supremacist, propagandist, and writer (and one-time disciple of Ezra Pound) once described as “a one-man organization of hate”. Mullins would lend research assistance to the anti-communist crusader Senator Joseph McCarthy in the early 1950’s while working for the Library of Congress, and over the course of several decades would write for a variety of anti-communist, antisemitic, pro-Nazi, and white supremacist publications. Published: Québec, Canada: Oblats de Marie-Immaculée, 1937. First Edition, First Printing. pp. 104. Slim 12mo., measuring 4″ x 6″. Twice-stapled, stiff, tan, cloth covers. Engraved frontispice depicting Mary, accompanied with various additional, in-text, engraved, religious vignettes and illustrations. Followed by a preface comprising of spiritual encouragement and a blessing by Charles-Antonelli Lamarche (1870-1940), Bishop of Chicoutim, which is notably, and somewhat unusually, printed entirely in Innu-aimun. Remarkably well-preserved showing no flaws to the cloth extremities, contents equally without blemish with firm, sound, stapled binding; near fine. Text entirely in romanized Montagnais [Innu-aimun]. An exceptionally rare offering of this instructional Catholic text as rendered into the Innu-aimun, language of the Innu Peoples, by the early Quebec Oblate missionary, Benjamin Boyer. Corresponds to OCLC #937032495 indicating only but two institutional holdings at time of cataloguing (LAC/BAC & Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec). Not found in Peel, UoM, Fisher. Rare indeed. Card Covers.

While little information is available on the author, Fr. Benjamin Boyer, and the circumstances which led to the present publication, it is known that he led a Catholic mission to the Montagnais reserve of Pointe-Bleue, Québec (known today as Mashteuiatsh). Levasseur writes that “the mission at Pointe-Bleue, finally, on a Montagnais reserve, prospered under the direction of Fathers Benjamin Boyer from 1913 to 1930 and of Joseph Decarie from 1931 to 1942. The latter also served an outpost at Lake Onistagan, some 300 kilometers north of Pointe-Bleue.” We were unable to locate any other works attributed to Boyer. [Source: Levasseur, D. (1989). Volvelle Wednesday? Not quite, but please have a look at this charming Volvelle (or a rotating paper chart) published as a promotional instrument by the Kellogg Cereal Company. Modelled after the American version, this is the first one we’ve seen which incorporates the Canadian provinces, accompanied with a variety of facts and figures for each. Complete description below. 🥛🥣

[Kellogg Company of Canada]; Allan D. Gow (Illust.). Kellogg’s Wheel of Knowledge: Interesting Facts About Canada. London, Ontario, Canada: Kellogg Company [of Canada], 1932. First Edition, First Printing. One revolving wheel, mounted upon stiff card covers measuring 17 x 17 cm. Exceptionally rare and charming early Canadian culinary ephemera as issued by the Canadian subsidiary of the Kellogg Company of the United States, and illustrated by Allan D. Gow. The card bears the names of each of the Canadian provinces (ten provinces and territories at time of publication), printed in alphabetical order around the wheel. The wheel is in-turn illustrated with a map of Canada, the Canadian Parliament, various Kellogg cereal products, and a pointer with cut-outs revealing information about each of the respective provinces as the wheel is rotated (e.g.: Capital, Population, Date Entered Confederation, Highest Land Elevation, Principal River, Railway Mileage, et al.). Verso bears additional text and illustrations, with commentary entitled: “Wise Eating Makes Healthy, Active Bodies”. Exceedingly rare in commerce. At time of cataloguing not found in OCLC (although we note the presence of one holding at Yale). Nominally corresponds to its sister American publication similarly titled and published one year prior in 1931: “Kellogg’s wheel of knowledge: interesting facts about the United States”.
